Our aims are that all pupils: 

• Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics so that they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately; 
• Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication, including in unfamiliar contexts and to model real-life scenarios; 
• Can reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry and develop and present a justification, argument or proof using mathematical language. 

In order to do this: 

We provide a Junior Maths curriculum that supports a mastery approach to teaching and learning, that has been designed to support the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum and promotes enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning through practical activity, exploration and discussion. As well as developing competence and confidence with the number system, we progress pupils’ ability to solve problems through decision-making and reasoning in a range of contexts which promote and support understanding of the importance of mathematics in everyday life.

We use the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract) approach to developing mathematical skills and build competency: 

Concrete – Pupils are given the opportunity to view and use concrete objects and manipulatives online to help them understand what they are doing and learning.

Pictorial – Alongside this, pupils are given the opportunity to use pictorial representations to support the embedding of concepts and help reason and solve problems.

Abstract – Both concrete and pictorial representations should support pupils’  understanding of abstract methods.

We believe the teaching & learning of English enables pupils to communicate and understand the world around us. It gives them confidence and a way to express their emotions, opinions and ambitions. We have designed our Junior English Curriculum around the context of a number of texts to immerse and highly engage pupils with English as a subject. The intent is to provide creative, real purpose opportunities through the teaching of SPAG, writing and reading for purpose, which present opportunities for acquiring knowledge, skills and understanding of the English National Curriculum.  

Our writing aims are to:

• Nurture and develop confident and creative writers;
• Provide a stimulating and challenging range of teaching and learning experiences which present opportunities for acquiring knowledge, skills and understanding of grammar and punctuation;
• Provide opportunities for the development of creativity through writing across the curriculum and give pupils real purpose opportunities for writing;
• Set writing tasks which have a clear and immediate purpose and intended audience;
• Provide writing frames, engaging stimulus and word banks to support less confident pupils

Our aims are that all pupils: 

• Are nurtured and developed into confident and inquisitive scientists, ready for the 21st Century;
• Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of Science through different types of scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them;
• Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

In order to do this, we will:

• provide a Science curriculum that has been designed to support the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum;
• offer a range of stimulating and creative teaching and learning experiences which present opportunities for acquiring knowledge, skills and understanding of scientific concepts;
• provide real, purposeful opportunities to explore and develop scientific concepts, including through a range of practical activities which embed pupils’ skills to work scientifically;
• challenge, encourage and promote scientific prediction and explanation skills;
• embed opportunities to develop cross-curricular writing by using science as a meaningful, real context for lessons;
• support our well-structured and progressive curriculum, through a range of engaging STEM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) throughout the academic year. This includes holding a whole school cross curricular STEM week in celebration of the annual British Science Week and preparing Year 6 for transition through running the STEM Young Leaders Award at the end of the academic year.

Learning to read fluently is a fundamental part of a child’s education in order to confidently access all areas of learning and prepare them for the next stage in their life. Reading is given high status at My Online Schooling Junior School. We aim to teach pupils the skills to enable them to read well but also aim to instil them with a love of reading and a passion for exploring a range of texts and genres. We encourage our pupils to engage in the selection of “100 Books to Read before I Leave Y6”.

Our reading aims are to:

• Develop a love of literature that includes the multitude of genres and a wide range of authors that are promoted through various areas and resources throughout school;
• Develop confidence in reading and to share with others their love of books;
• Provide a wide range of opportunities for reading, linking this to everyday life situations;
• Read with confidence, fluency and understanding

Our aims at My Online Schooling Junior School are that all pupils: 

• are provided with rich learning opportunities in Humanities (Geography and History) to acquire knowledge and develop practical skills such as exploration, enquiry and interpretation; 
• are inspired to have a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people; 
• are equipped with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes;
• are inspired to have a curiosity to know more about the past and ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement;
• understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

In order to do this, we will:

• encourage pupils to be curious about the natural world and its past, present and future;
• explore physical and human landscapes, and a context for the causes and consequences of physical and human inter-relationships and interdependence which characterise our modern world;
• ensure pupils are equipped with the skills to use and analyse a range of evidence sources, maps, images and Geographical Information Systems;
• encourage pupils to explore and engage with important issues facing humanity, including sustainability, social change and inequality and injustice;
• include rich content in our curriculum across time periods on a global scale and the skills necessary to interpret and articulate the past and the present;
• develop an understanding of British and World history and a knowledge of globally significant places and key themes;
• allow pupils to research, present and evaluate data so they can think critically about problems and issues.
• provide a practical, real purpose approach to develop engagement in cross-curricular disciplines such as English Reading and Writing, Art and Design and Technology;
• support our well-structured and progressive curriculum, through holding a whole school cross curricular Humanities week in celebration of a global theme or event at the end of the academic year.

Our aims at My Online Schooling Junior School are that all pupils: 

Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) has a key place at the heart of our curriculum due to the importance we place as a school on our pupil’s wellbeing and mental health. Our curriculum enables pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for future life and work. 

Our aims are that all pupils:

• Develop self-confidence and self-esteem;
• Form positive relationships with other members of the school and the wider community;
• Are positive and active members of society;
• Understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences;
• Understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle.

The three main areas of study are health and wellbeing, relationships, and living in the wider world. The health and wellbeing topic covers positive and negative influences on  physical, mental, and emotional health, healthy diets,  the influence of social media, recognising risk, danger,  and hazards, commonly available substances, and  changes to the body with puberty. The relationships topic will cover how to manage and communicate feelings to others, how to care for others, types of bullying and strategies  to resist bullying, and how and where to get help.  The living in the wider world topic will allow pupils to discuss and debate topical issues, understand basic  human rights, learn what it means to be part of a  community, appreciate different religious and ethnic identities and understand how the media  presents information.

Our aims at My Online Schooling Junior School are that all pupils: 

• are provided a high-quality art and design education which engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design;
• understand how art and design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation; 
• use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

In order to do this, we will:

• think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design;
• provide produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences;
• become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques;
• evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design;
• know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms; 
• develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world;
• build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users;
• critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others;
• understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook;

Active Hour is a new exciting addition to the Junior School Curriculum package from September 2022. This new hourly session will be delivered weekly in Years 3-6 by class teachers. We are proud to have developed a fun and engaging physical education curriculum that follows objectives and teaches skills from the English National Curriculum, helps keep pupils active and healthy and pushes the boundaries of online learning.
